09 May - New Legislation for the Treatment of Non-Hazardous Wastes for Landfill

From October 30th 2007, new legislation will come into effect. Which means all non-hazardous waste must be treated before it can be landfilled. This originates from the EU Landfill Directive.

The Pre-treatment requirements of the Landfill Regulations will mean that no waste will be able to be disposed of to landfill unless it can be proven to have undergone a treatment process. In most cases, it is likely that this will mean a reduction in weight by removing a proportion of the waste for recycling, whether at source through a separate recycling collection or at a sorting facility.
