Devon Waste Management Ltd (DWML) provides key waste management services to both the private and public sector within the region. Services include receipt, transfer, recovery and recycling of all classes of non-hazardous wastes, haulage and ultimate disposal of residues to landfill. The company also handles and landfills bonded asbestos materials. The company has a long history of shredding and on-farm composting of garden waste and, more recently, the shredding and marketing of waste wood. Within these services, the company also operates a commercial and industrial waste collection, recycling and disposal operation to both trade and household customers. In addition, the company undertakes an environmental monitoring service including sampling and analysis of ground and surface waters, landfill gases, gas engine management and COTC management of redundant landfills.
DWML has an excellent reputation with the Environment Agency and local and waste producer companies for high quality operations within the region and is a BS 9001 Quality Management certified business. The company employs 43 full time, trained and experienced staff who are motivated to achieve high customer satisfaction.
Originally a local authority waste disposal company, DWML was incorporated in 1991 and was sold to the private sector in December 2003. Although a fully independent private company, its background provides a wide experience in servicing local authority contracts with an effective and pragmatic approach in terms of service delivery and statutory targets.
The company operates sites and facilities within Devon, including:
- Two Landfill Sites at Torrington and near Okehampton (recently closed)
- Three Transfer Stations at Exeter, Crediton and Tavistock
- 24 Civic Amenity and Recycling Centres throughout Devon
- Energy recovery at Landfill sites
- Garden Waste Composting
- Skip and Container Hire and disposal
- Skip recycling and recovery
Devon Waste Management Ltd currently services four local authority waste management contracts as a sub-contractor to Viridor, handling around 180,000 tonnes annually including waste transfer and disposal plus the operation and management of twenty four County civic amenity recycling centre contracts. The latter are operated directly with the County Council to ensure prompt and efficient delivery of services to the public on behalf of our client.
All the company's facilities are operated within strict licence or authorisations in accordance with the company's quality management system to BS 9001. The latter also includes the implementation of formal Health & Safety, Customer Care and employment policies which are also geared to protecting customers and the public who utilise the DWML facilities.
